    Volunteer with Us

Invasive Species Survey Group volunteers play a direct role in conserving our wild spaces. Invasive species threaten our native species and their habitats, and we need your help in documenting their spread across the state. All you need is a mobile device with the EDDMapS mobile application downloaded, and a good pair of shoes to get outside and start reporting.

You will be a vital part of providing intel to land managers by providing up to date data about invasive species occurrence and abundance on their properties. We will provide you with the tools and training to complete reconnaissance missions and help conservation efforts in Florida.

    • What We Do

As an invasive species survey group volunteer, you would pledge to take part in invasive species surveys throughout north Florida!

      1. Consult with land managers to identify priority areas to survey & monitor.
      2. Travel to various natural areas, including Wildlife Management Areas, State Parks, National Forests, and private conservation lands, to conduct surveys.
      3. Identify and document invasive species in the field.
      4. Use EDDMapS to document and share invasive species occurrence data, which can then be used by land managers and researchers.
    • Who Can Volunteer

Anyone aged 18 or older is eligible to volunteer. There's no need to have experience with plant identification or field survey work, we'll cover everything you need to know in the online short course.

UF Volunteers cannot be current employees or graduate students who have job responsibilities similar to a role in which they are volunteering. If you are current or retired UF staff, please indicate so on the volunteer interest form, and we can ensure there is no conflict of interest.

    • Where We Work

We're currently focusing our survey efforts in this region of north Florida and the panhandle. This project area corresponds with three CISMA (Cooperative Invasive Species Management Areas) regions: the Six Rivers CISMA, the Apalachicola Regional Stewardship Alliance, and the North Central Florida CISMA. There may be some opportunities for survey work outside of these counties, and we do hope to expand our efforts statewide eventually.

    • How to join
